The artist is inviting the audience to donate their own bedsheets and participate in a series of group games for kids and adults. The washed sheets can be of any color, size and pattern.

The exhibition “Lola Speak!” commemorates victims of femicide in Greece and internationally and challenges the victim blaming culture. Womxn all around the world are fighting for their right to make decisions for their own bodies, for equal pay, for safety and happiness. Our inner child wants to be happy, carefree and playful. Instead, we have to look behind our backs when walking home at night. And, for many of us, home is where we are most exposed, unprotected and stripped off our human dignity.
We fight, mourn, and most importantly celebrate life, so that we, our mothers, sisters and friends will lead lives of empowerment. Our unity changes the collective mindset and prompts the creation of social structures that will ensure equality beyond gender, race, physical challenges and immigration status.
The exhibited works were made with bedsheets donated by womxn that live in Greece, under the condition that they have used them to rest on them and dream of a safe world. The works’ visuals are referencing the Alphavitarion (ABC book) published in 1955, illustrated by K. Grammatopoulos.
The event is part of the WOW Athens Festival, presented for the second consecutive year by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).

Η δράση Γενέθλια θα παρουσιαστεί από τη Γεωργία Λαλέ το Σάββατο 5 Απριλίου. Η καλλιτέχνης καλεί το κοινό να δωρίσει τα δικά του σεντόνια και να συμμετάσχει σε μια σειρά από ομαδικά παιχνίδια για παιδιά και ενήλικες. Τα σεντόνια μπορούν να είναι οποιουδήποτε χρώματος, μεγέθους και σχεδίου.

Η έκθεση Λόλα Μίλα! τιμά τη μνήμη των θυμάτων γυναικοκτονίας στην Ελλάδα και διεθνώς, ενώ αμφισβητεί την κουλτούρα της ενοχοποίησης των θυμάτων. Γυναίκες και θηλυκότητες σε όλο τον κόσμο αγωνίζονται για το δικαίωμα στην ελεύθερη διάθεση του σώματος, την επαγγελματική ισότητα, την ασφάλεια, την ευτυχία.
Η παιδική μας ψυχή επιθυμεί τη χαρά, την ανεμελιά και το παιχνίδι. Αντ’ αυτού, αναγκαζόμαστε να κοιτάμε πίσω μας όταν περπατάμε μόνες τη νύχτα. Και για πολλές από εμάς, το ίδιο μας το σπίτι δεν είναι χώρος ασφαλής, αλλά ένα περιβάλλον έκθεσης, απειλής και προσβολής της ανθρώπινης αξιοπρέπειας.
Παλεύουμε, θρηνούμε και χαιρόμαστε τη ζωή, έτσι ώστε εμείς, οι μητέρες, οι αδελφές και οι φίλες μας να ζήσουμε ζωές ενδυνάμωσης. Η αλληλεγγύη μας, αλλάζει τη συλλογική νοοτροπία και οδηγεί στη δημιουργία κοινωνικών δομών που θα διασφαλίσουν ισότητα πέρα από το φύλο, τη φυλή, τις σωματικές δυσκολίες και το καθεστώς μετανάστευσης.
Τα έργα που εκτίθενται δημιουργήθηκαν πάνω σε σεντόνια, δωρεά γυναικών και θηλυκοτήτων που ζουν στην Ελλάδα, υπό την προϋπόθεση ότι πάνω σε αυτά είχαν ξαποστάσει και ονειρευτεί έναν κόσμο ασφαλή. Εικαστικά, η έκθεση αντλεί αναφορές από το Αλφαβητάριον του 1955, εικονογραφημένο από τον Κ. Γραμματόπουλο, ανασυνθέτοντας τη γλώσσα και τα σύμβολα ενός παιδικού βιβλίου για να αφηγηθεί μια ιστορία αντίστασης και ελπίδας.
Η εκδήλωση πραγματοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του Φεστιβάλ WOW Athens, που παρουσιάζεται για δεύτερη συνεχή χρονιά από το Κέντρο Πολιτισμού Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος (ΚΠΙΣΝ)

Ο σκοπός του Ελληνικού Τμήματος του Ευρωπαϊκού Παρατηρητηρίου για τη Γυναικοκτονία είναι να παρουσιάσει την τρέχουσα εικόνα των γυναικοκτονίων στην Ελλάδα μέσα από ποσοτικά και ποιοτικά δεδομένα, το οποία καταγράφει από το 2019.

My art work “Flag” was censored by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and taken down from my solo exhibition at the Greek Consulate General in New York. I removed the piece “Neighborhood Guilt” because I was concerned about its safety. You can find more information and images, along with the press release for the show and the announcement of independent Cultural Committee that approved and supports my work at this link .
This exhibition addresses the phenomena of femicide and domestic violence. The flag and the quilt are created out of bed sheets donated by women that live in Greece. The majority of victims of femicide are killed in their houses and on their beds.
Carte Blanche Project is a pilot artist showcase program conceived and presented by the Consulate General of Greece in NY in collaboration with the advisory arts committee comprised of Eirini Linardaki, Natasha Katerinopoulos, Lolita Koutoudi, and Panos Tsagaris. This program is made possible with major support provided by the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce.
The Project aims to showcase the work of artists from Greece who live and/or work in New York. This is the first step of a developing initiative to boost their representation and presence in NYC by having bi-monthly art exhibitions hosted at the Consulate General of Greece in NYC.
Moreover, to recognize the plethora of Greek arts professionals in NYC, the arts committee will rotate annually for the various diverse voices of the community to be demonstrated and experienced by local audiences.
Georgia Lale is a visual artist and cancer fighter based in Brooklyn. Their work has been featured in art festivals such as Art in Odd Places (NYC), Venice International Performance Art Week (Italy), and Brussels Nuit Blanche (Belgium). Lale’s work has recently been exhibited at A.I.R. Gallery, Border Project Space, Collar Works, Smack Mellon, and Shiva Gallery – among others. They have been invited to discuss their practice by the Dedalus Foundation, MoMA, and Yale University. Their #OrangeVest performance was presented at the Greek Pavilion of the 15th Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2016. Georgia is represented by a.antonopoulou.art in Greece.
